MAC Lightscapade

mac lightscapade

I made one of the most difficult beauty decisions I've had to make thus far - Soft and Gentle or Lightscapade? I am, of course, talking about MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes. Eventually, I was swayed by Lightscapade and popped one in my virtual shopping trolley. This is my first 'proper' highlighter product and I was always a little skeptical of how much they could really do in terms of my makeup routine. Let's just say, once you start highlighting, you never go back.

I've been so impressed with this product. The shade is a cool toned champagne colour, as opposed to Soft and Gentle's peachy shade. This suits my fair skin down to the ground, it adds the most gorgeous glow without packing on the glitter. It's definitely a subtle shimmer as the powder is so finely milled. I dust this over my cheekbones with a Real Techniques contour brush and it seems to just perk up my whole complexion. I'd feel a little lost without this little baby in my everyday makeup routine, but I am still ever so intrigued by what Soft and Gentle can offer purely due to how much praise I've heard it receive.

Help a girl out - do I need Soft and Gentle or is one of these MAC babies enough?!

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish - Stereo Rose

Thursday, 10 January 2013

I debated whether not to review this product as it's so hyped that I'm pretty sure everyone and their dog has heard of it by now. The product in question is MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Stereo Rose. It was recently re-released as part of the Aprés Chic collection and I decided to make an impulse buy at the same time as I purchased my first MAC lipstick. I'd never tried a MAC MSF before, but I had heard great things and I was sucked in by the hype surrounding this particular shade, Stereo Rose.

The packaging is typical MAC - black and sophisticated. The compact is sturdy and practical, but I wish it contained a mirror so I could take it on the go. The formula of the product is lovely, it's soft and blendable and applies like a dream. It's really pigmented but you can build it up to a more intense shade, or apply lightly for a sheer flush of colour. I couldn't capture it well in a hand swatch, so I included a couple of photos where I am wearing this on my cheeks. In the first photo, I build up the colour to a more intense coral, and in the second I went for a more sheer flush. I find the colour really flattering for my skintone at least, but if you use too much then it can look a little like sunburn, as I heard someone recently describe it. I use this as a blush, but it doubles up as a highlighter as it contains lots of shimmer. I don't usually like shimmer in blushers, but I do really like this one. It seems to give my skin a healthy glow without looking like I've sprinkled glitter on my face.

These aren't cheap at £21.50 a go, but you do get a lot of product and because you have to use so little, I can see this lasting me quite a while! Unfortunately, Stereo Rose sold out within days so you won't find it online but your local MAC might have some left. Do I think this particular MSF is worth the hype? Yes. I had high expectations, but these were met by the gorgeous colour and formula. I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of this during summer, especially.

Did you manage to get Stereo Rose this time around, or have you tried it before? If not, what other MSF do you recommend? I want to collect them all now!

Monday Wishlist #2

Monday, 16 July 2012

1. YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat foundation RRP £28 - I have a sample of this in shade BR20 and it is the most perfect colour match for me, something which I usually have trouble with when getting a foundation. I thought this might have been overhyped, but I'm loving it so far and dying to get the full size.

2. ASOS Felt Doctors Bag RRP £60 - I'm in desperate need of a new handbag as my current one is too small, and my others are literally falling apart. I love a big handbag, and this looks like it would go with anything.

3. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle RRP £21.50 - I've heard great things about this and considering I don't actually own ANY highlighting products, this is more of a "need" than a "want"... right?

4. MAC Cut a Caper lipstick RRP £14 - It's just typical that this is now sold out just when I've added it to my wishlist! I've never bought a MAC lipstick before but this one really caught my eye. There isn't even a counter near me so this will probably remain on my wishlist forever...

5. REN ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser RRP £18 - Again, I've heard lots of good things about this cleanser and I'm in the process of weaning myself off of Clinique's 3 Step System so I'd really like to try this. I have super oily skin so the idea of a clay cleanser really appeals to me!

I really had to restrain myself this week and keep my wishlist down to just 5 items. If I had things my way, I'd have a list to the moon and back!

Are there any products which you have been lusting over recently? Have you tried any of these products?
