Leaving On A Jet Plane

Tuesday, 4 June 2013

This post has been a long time coming, and one which I have been putting off writing. As you might be
aware, I'm jetting off to the USA this summer to work at a kid's summer camp! The days have been flying by quicker than I could imagine, and it's finally time for me to pack my suitcase, grab my sunnies and hop on the plane to Chicago. I deliberated for quite some time about what to do with my little blog whilst I was away. I did consider scheduling posts, but it's something that I have never done before as it doesn't feel natural to me. As you can tell, I do blog somewhat sporadically - I blog when I feel the urge to write and when it flows naturally to me. I like to write and hit publish and then tell you guys that I've posted. The thought of writing 12-15 posts and scheduling them on a weekly basis for them to publish automatically from an empty screen just doesn't sit right with me. The reason I love blogging is the interaction with you, my lovely readers, and I'm simply not comfortable with not being present whilst my blog is updating itself.

The camp I'm going to does have electricity and limited internet access, so I imagine I'll be able to sneak in a little update here and there. However, I'll be working almost 24/7 with the occasional hour or two off so as I'm sure you can understand, I'll probably be using that hour to catch up on some sleep, go for a swim or simply find a quiet spot for some thinking time away from the hectic, crazy life of camp. As much as I'd love to blog my adventures along the way in America and share them with you, it just isn't going to feasible. I did have a little moment of panic and think that if I neglect the blog for all of 3 months, I'll come home to no readers and that'll be that! But I'm hoping that you guys can bear with me and understand the situation I'm faced with. I want to be as personal and as real as I can be, which is why I won't be scheduling posts. Blogging isn't a full-time, or even part-time, job for me - it's a hobby, which I greatly enjoy. But I fit blogging around my life, I don't fit my life around blogging which is really important for me to stick with. Life gets in the way sometimes, as I'm sure you can relate to.

If I'm totally honest, my blog will probably be the last thing on my mind when I'm running on very little sleep, surrounded by eager, energetic kids and attempting to keep them entertained! Camp life is going to be a massive change for me, but it's one I'm looking to embrace entirely and I am so so so excited to get on that plane. Equally, I am completely and utterly terrified. I haven't been sleeping well for the past week or so as I've been kept up with anxious thoughts about the smallest of things, like what if I can't find the gate at the airport? Silly, I know, but I'm just so nervous and I feel helpless as I have no idea what to expect. But I reckon by the end of the summer, someone will need to physically drag me on that plane home!

I think I've said everything I wanted to. I really just wanted to explain to you my reasons for not scheduling posts and why I'll be pretty much absent for the next 3ish months. I hope you'll understand and stick with me, I'm sure I'll have lots of stories to share with you when I'm back - not to mention a whole host of American beauty goodies... Sephora, I'm coming for ya!

If you'd like to keep up with my adventures, the best way to do so would be to follow me on Twitter as that will be the easiest way for me to update whilst I'm away. A massive thank you if you've read this entire post - I really do appreciate every single one of you lovely readers, and I can't wait to show you what I get up to in the USA!

  7. A few people I know did this, and they had an absolute blast. They had little sleep, were constantly on the go, but the experience they said is simply invaluable. I was toying with the idea when I was at uni of doing this but I backed out last minute due to finances and other stupid things (ie ''How am I going to get my hair done?'' {LAME LOL}.

But I simply wish you all the very best of luck, and have an amazing summer :)
